Species Overview
Physiology
Stiltkin often come in flavors of dull grays to shimmering blues and sport fine, hair-like feathers that cover their bodies. Despite the avian appearance and longer feathers along their forearms, they do not have wings. Their tail feathers are often long enough to resemble the back of an elaborate tunic.
Demeanor
Outsiders often remark the Stiltkin for their reserved and contemplative nature, noting how they prefer to observe rather than speak. Once a Stiltkin discerns the perspective of the stranger and accepts them into their community, they show a remarkable attitude of acceptance towards all backgrounds.
History
The Stiltkin have always lived in the Murk. They are primarily a spear- and bow-fishing community, surviving off of the flesh-eating fish that inhabit the rivers. Much of their culture stems from the still practice of fishing with meditative arts of basket-weaving and glassblowing being dominant.
A relatively recent contract with the Shard Cities for their coveted mana-infused spirit has opened up some of their members to the idea of adventuring.
Outlook
The Stiltkin lead simple and harmonious lives; their philosophies reflective of the patient rhythm of the seasons in the wetlands:
- Still waters become clear.
- A straight line is often slower.
- Unity in diversity, strength in conviction.
- Respect whispers louder than Dissent shouts.
- Viewpoints are lenses to understand the world. See through many.
Adventurers
Young Stiltkin often get inspired to set out into the wider world when hearing tales from the older monks that trade mana-spirit to the Shard Cities. Their mastery of stillness and silence makes them excellent observers, especially in dense locales.
Typical Names
Stiltkin see names as the encapsulation of the very essence of an individual. Their naming convention often follows an Adjective Noun structure, with nouns rooted in natural or spiritual meanings.
Examples: Grim Sorrow, Angry River, Wise Warble, Calm Calling
